E-mail phishing attack

Further to the users of Microsoft E-mail service (Hotmail.com, msn.com, live.com) had been found suffering from the attack, the latest E-mail phishing attack has been spread to Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, and AOL account as reported lately.  Hope you are not one of the victims.

How to check if you are suffered?

After the first account information has been removed from pastebin.com, people are worried about how to check if their account has been hacked.  Okay, let's try something simple as a taste of it:

  1. Go to google.com
  2. Put in your E-mail address (you can use quotes specifying the address as well, i.e. "[email protected]") and click "Search"
  3. See if it's listed and any password information in the stored cached result

The positive result of this simple checking does not guarantee that you are totally free from the hack, but at least you can make an estimation about the situation of your E-mail address.  Act fast if you are planning to do so, search result cache could be refreshed quickly.

Be sure to read an article by Google: Choosing a smart password

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2009

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2009 has just been announced, and the winners:

Dr Kao, who has been named "Father of Fiber Optic Communications", spent his effort making the fiber optics as a telecommunications medium possible.  We are now enjoying the high speed Internet, just because of the fiber optics.

I put their name in Google trends to search the trends, and the result is:

"do not have enough search volume to show graphs"

oh well.

Google Wave

As mentioned about the Google Wave in my first blog entry, here're some highlights I'd like to share with you after watching the Youtube video (1hr 20mins):
  • a simple communication object aim at communication collaboration
  • a real instant communication platform, even typing, editing the same content together with different users
  • a simple browser will run Google Wave
  • as a proxy to communicate with different communication systems, like Twitter, Blogger, etc...
  • it's open source, and server independent - only involves the server particpated in private communication
  • real-time translation (through robot, serve as a participant - Rosy Etta) during communication (a wave)
  • extending the Google Wave by the Google Wave APIs
Remember, you are using just a web browser to do all the tasks mentioned above.  Simpy Amazing :)
Just can't wait for adapting it into future web development.

Helping the victims of Tropical Storm Ketsana

I know you've heard the news of Tropical Storm Ketsana hitting the Philippines last week.  Unfortunately, another Typhoon Parma has just been slowly crossing the northern tip of the country, making the situation even worse.  I've just read a local news about a preliminary earthquake report that a magnitude 6.5 offshore earthquake struck the southern Philippines 4 hours ago, hope it's not hitting the country even worse.

A Google Map presenting the Typhoon Ketsana affected countries
A dedicated Google page with maps providing the missing report - at least one more source of information and channel for reporting or finding the missing.  Google has been doing this for the Sichuan Earthquakes in 2008 and other disasters as well, which enables people sharing the information and help the relief effort.

Spread out the news and information as much as you can, donate and help the victims in the Philippines.
